Cleared both CSE and IFoS Prelims? Which to prepare for
It depends on your optionals and your attempts. Here is the decision, case by case.
Case 1: one optional is common with CSE
Focus on CSE for now. You will get around 80 days only for IFoS after CSE Mains. That is more than enough to prepare the optional, most probably Forestry. Start on 1 September.
Case 2: no common optional, and it’s your first Mains, or you’ve written Mains before without an interview call
Prepare for IFoS. It is a relatively easier exam to crack, and 4 months are enough. Many candidates miss the CSE interview call but crack IFoS easily. Secure the IFoS job, take a 1 to 2 year extension to join, and attempt IAS or IPS with peace of mind.
Case 3: no common optional, and you’ve been to a CSE interview or selected in an allied service
A difficult choice, but we suggest focusing on CSE for now. An earlier selection shows your writing is good enough; with the right guidance you can crack IFoS even if you prepare after CSE.
