What “study smart” actually means

A learner asked us how to study smart. For us, it is about three things: efficiency, retention and the maximum return on time.

Test yourself honestly. The 15th Finance Commission submitted its report and, like every aspirant, you read several articles on it. Now recall: its composition, functions, criteria, grant provisions, sectors for performance-based grants, the mechanism for defence funding, the fiscal roadmap. How many can you answer well?

That is hard work without smart work. Learners who studied it smartly spent 10 to 15 minutes and remember every one of those headers. They were efficient, they retained what they read, and they picked the highest-return topic.

The UPSC syllabus is not large. Ineffective study techniques make it look huge.
